Sensory Bucket and Activity For Toddlers

A very long winter + a momma on bed rest + the birth of our brand new baby girl = SEVERE cabin fever.

My kids needed the outdoors, but the outdoors weren't quite ready for play. After looking around at my house and seeing toys spewed all, but no kiddo playing with any of them, I decided that I needed to come up with something.

I didn't want your typical "sensory bucket". I wanted something that would give the kiddos a little taste of warmer weather. After racking my brain for hours, "The Garden" was born.

Giving the kids a chance to tend to their garden created awesome discussion. I never realized how little we actually talked about all the different kids of vegetables. And if your kids are anything like mine, they HATE to eat their veggies. But, believe it or not, after this activity, they were actually curious about the veggies I was putting on their plates and would even take a bite or two. (Getting them to eat their veggies is a HUGE battle in this house. This activity did NOT solve that battle, but I'd call that one bite a HUGE victory in my book.)

This sensory bucket was SO easy to make. A lot of the needed items you might already have in your house, but if not, they are always readily available on Amazon!

Here is what you will need:

-A container

-Dried Beans

-A bucket

-A toy rake/shovel

-Toy vegetables

All you have to do is dump the beans into a clear container. We started with the veggies already buried and ready to dig out, but you could easily let the kids plant the veggies before they are ready to be harvested! :)

Jaxon and Julianna played with the sensory buckets for a whole hour and still beg us to get them out. It was SO much fun watching them interact with each other and tend to their gardens so differently.
